The company, founded in 2007 by Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi, has more than 175 million customers. The Austin office will focus on Dropbox’s growing business base, according to this post.
The company has raised $257 million and acquired Mailbox for $100 million this year, according to its CrunchBase profile.
Dropbox is a free online file sharing application. The company launched out of Y Combinator.
“When we began looking for our second US location, Austin was an obvious choice,” according to Dropbox’s post. “The city has a lot going on in tech and art, paired nicely with a healthy dose of Texan hospitality. Also, the food is pretty legit.”
